Adoption from Foster Care

Foster-to-Adopt:

  • The Basics: Become a licensed foster family and accept placement of a child (or children) into your home who is under the supervision of the Department of Child Services (DCS) after having been removed from her/his birth family due to neglect or abuse. The child may later become eligible for adoption.

Indiana Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP):

  • The Basics: The Indiana Department of Child Services offers this program (also referred to as the Indiana Adoption Program) for children who are in need of permanent families and are under the supervision of DCS after having been removed from their birth family due to neglect or abuse. The family may or may not become licensed as a foster family before adopting a child through this program.
